Contrary to my previous post, I've decided not to comment on Tibet and to reserve an judgement of the Beijing Olympics until they happen. I do know that I'm glad that I'm not in China for the Olympics because travelling during Spring Festival was nightmarish enough, and that only included the Chinese crazy enough to travel. The Olympics will, of course, include the Chinese crazy enough to travel, plus all the tourists crazy enoug to travel. This is perhaps why the Chinese government is clamping down on the visas. I've decided not to go to China this summer mainly as a result of it being insanely expensive. Maybe next year.
Korea
My sister is currently in Hong Kong and is planning to travel to Korea soon. I might soon have something to say about Korea, a place I would love to go to. I would also love to take a trip to North Korea, where you can actually go as a tourist, contrary to popular Fox-News-creating belief.
Updates
- I am finally a university graduate. Well, I will be officially in June, when they do lots of paperwork.
- I'm working as an ESL instructor here in Guelph. I only have one student at the moment, but I'm hoping for more because I'm seriously underemployed at the moment.
- I'm going to Cuba!
- I'm going to Nova Scotia!
Nova Scotia
I went to NS almost two years ago now and it was a blast, so I want to do it again. Hopefully, see more this time, including the Dalhousie campus and people who work there who might be able to give me some information about going there, either as a grad or a law student.
Ideally, I'd love to go in July, because that's when summer holidays are most convenient for me, but I've found tickets to Halifax in September for $89 each way, plus taxes and made up fees, of course. That is about $30 cheaper than what I paid last time, and about $100 less than what the rates are in July. So, decisions need to be made here. We shall see. More on that as it develops.
Cuba
The Cuba thing is more sure than the NS thing, laregly because I'm not paying for the former. We (the whole family) are going in June. It's a beach holiday at an all-inclusive resort about one hour (random guess) North of Holguin and a short way out of a small town called Guardalavaca. It's on one of the best beaches for snorkelling, which I may try my hand at, you know, if I can master that breathing-through-your-mouth techinique. We're also plannning to make a day trip to Santiago for something pirate related... more on that later.
Here's a link to the place we're going: Blau Costa Verde
Here are some pictures for those too lazy to click on the above link. I stole them from the Signature Vacations site listing for the resort and from the TripAdvisor review page (user submitted). I'm too lazy to properly give credit on this page, but if you have any questions or comments about this, I'd be happy to give you more information:
